Course overview
In this interactive online workshop, you will learn how to develop murals ordinances that work more effectively for communities and artists.

We will:
*Review laws, cases and practices regarding public art and murals ordinances in the United States,
*Analyze and critique a sample, problematic draft ordinance and explore ways to improve it,
*Engage in peer coaching and learning to help improve or draft ordinances in our own communities.

Instructor: Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP  
President, Creative Placemaking Communities

Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP, is a national award-winning urban planner and educator who has been teaching and consulting on creative placemaking since 2012. This workshop is a variation of a workshop he provided to help improve the quality of a draft murals ordinance in Runnemede, NJ in 2022.

Leo is the designer and director of the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit and Creative Placemaking Advanced Leadership programs. He is the primary author of Creative Perth Amboy, a creative placemaking plan for Perth Amboy, NJ that won that Outstanding Municipal Plan award from the American Planning Association New Jersey chapter in 2016.
